CITIES

What are the main factors and instruments for the effective cities’ development? What are the strategies, practices and cities’ management models used by modern city managers? Why do cities need master plans and what are the principles they should be built upon? How to keep citizens’ interests in the spotlight?

Leading international and Russian experts in territorial development, entrepreneurs and government officials will meet at the «Living Environment: Cities» forum in Veliky Novgorod on September 19‑21 2019 to share their own experiences and answer these and many other questions in order to identify directions of development of Russian cities till 2024. Forum will discuss new instruments of strategic planning of cities, which will help reach the goals set in the national projects of the country, and new models of city management – particularly, the role of mayors.

Veliky Novgorod

One of the most ancient Russian cities with a unique cultural and architectural legacy.

Veliky Novgorod is one of the main spots on the touristic map of Russia. A city with more than a thousand-year history. It’s here where the Russian state was born. Red brick of the Novgorod Detinets, white stone of the ancient churches and the brilliant domes of the Orthodox cathedrals of the historical city center are considered a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

This year the business program of the forum will take place literally by the walls of the Novgorod Kremlin – in the Regional Arensky Philarmonic.

In 2019, the «Living Environment» forum will take place in Veliky Novgorod

«Living Environment: Cities» will discuss new instruments of strategic urban planning and cities’ management models.

The fourth forum dedicated to the cities development will take place in Veliky Novgorod on September 19‑21th. It was announced at the «Investments in the urban development» session of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum by the Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Vitaly Mutko.

The main events of the forum’s program will be hosted by the Arensky Philharmonic. In the first three two days of the three-days program municipal leaders – Russian and international mayors, entrepreneurs and architects – will share their experiences of dealing with the relevant tasks in urban planning.

The third day will be held in a format of an «Urban Weekend», with lectures and workshops open to public.

«We are very pleased that in 2019 Veliky Novgorod was chosen to hold the «Living Environment». I’m sure it will give a new impetus for development of the first capital of our country not only as a city with long history, but also as a modern city that is comfortable for life», – said the Governor of the Novgorod region Andrey Nikitin.

In 2016, the forum took place in Innopolis and gathered around 350 Russian and international architects from more that 40 regions of the country. It resulted in the launch of the Standard for the integrated territorial development.

In 2017 Saratov hosted the forum which was attended by more that 800 experts and 55 thousand citizens. A methodology for calculating the Urban Environment Quality Index was presented here and the results of the competition in design projects for development of key public spaces in 15 Russian cities were announced.

In 2018, the forum moved to Kaliningrad where 700 representatives from 7 countries – authorities’ members from 85 regions of Russia, developers, architects and economists – came to participate. That time the winners of the Open international competition for the concepts of standard housing and residential development were announces and the educational program Architects.RF was launched.

The program for this year's forum will be published on this website soon.
